Intel Cpu Insertion Tool
I built my computer and it would boot, but only 2 out of four ram slots would work. Found out that I had bent pins in the 1151 socket. Bought a new board, wouldn't boot at all, found out that I had bent pins in the 1151 socket. First board I didn't use the new socket alignment tool (I have built many computers)never had a problem with intel. Did many years ago bend pins on an AMD chip. The second board,I did use the new chip insertion tool. Same result bent socket pins.
I am not a 'newbie' Help!what is going on here. Have a new board coming, 1 x ASRock Z170 Extreme7+ LGA 1151 Intel Z170 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard can't afford to have a third loss! The best that the senior Asus tech could tell me was don't use the new tool, go back to the way that you are used to installing CPU. No help at all.(thus the Asrock board for third try) There has to be something that I am missing here. I am starting to suspect the Corsair Hydro Series™ H80i GT High Performance Water/Liquid CPU Cooler.

120mm.Could it be that I somehow have been over-tightening it? I have installed half a dozen water coolers before,no problems. Possibly a defective CPU(bent pads). Would appreciate any advice. Thanks, Michael. On the mb was it the same pin in the same spot?? As these boards are shipped over seas in a known issue with the intel cpu cover is not thick and will bend and can hit the cpu pins and damage them.
As a rule i use a led flashlight and pin seach before i install the cpu. If it looks like there bent pins.send the mb back for refund. ___________________ +1 and it's not a bad idea to video tape opening the box it ships in and right through examining the socket, if bent pins come up, many re/e-tailers just automatically deny an RMA and blame you.
I appreciate the answers, and suggested solutions. Never again will I attempt to install a CPU without carefully examining the slot, and the chip, and maybe taking a photo. My mind was spinning today with a conspiracy theory. Maybe Asus knows that this slot is a little 'loose', or off, but had already made too many boards. So they came up with this new CPU insertion tool to try and save the board? I know that sounds far fetched, but look what Volkswagen is admitting to now.
