Hello all, My late '04 A8L W12 still has version 0890 of the software. I ordered AMI and wanted to retrofit it in my car.

When I got everything connected MMI did not recognized it. So I realized that I need SW update. I had no update CD-s but I had one control head that was allready updated to 4220. This was with FBAS input and as I want to add later TV-Tuner anyway I installed it in my car. When I powered my MMI up, everything was fine (or seemed fine) AMI was recognized and worked fine. CD-Player did not read any tracks - it was SW conflict with old cd and 4220 head BUT when i powered up my car - complete silence arrived. Component protection attacked!

Audi dealer removed component protection in 5 minutes next day and I got my CD-Player SW updated to 3460 in another A8 Now everything works great. My first question is: as I have complete spagetti now with SW in my car (Head: 4220, CD: 3460 and everything else ancient versions from late '04.) Do I have point to upgrade my MMI system with version 5150 disk now. Programa Formatar Zero Fill Hard. Is there any risks involved. Will I loose any options that I have now? Will it get better? I have allready ordered 5150 CD from Audi dealer and receive it on monday.

Also I have no NAVI. I want to add it. What do I need to do that? Also if anyone has TV-tuner for sale I may want to buy it. Counting on your help from this excellent forum Thanks. Just update from my situation: It was Component Protection problem with my DSP (poor sound - like talking on phone). Somehow it also affected phone.

(sound was poor when talking with the phone). All resolved after Audi dealer removed Component Protection.

Mmi update cd, audi a4 mmi manual download, audi a6 navigation dvd. MMI 2G high updating and new map disk. If you are running MMI version older than 5150/5170, run update CD1 first. Disk 1 5150 update 2.

I lost 'Instrument Cluster' menu from CAR >Systems but I was able to restore it as described here: From 'APK 0x01, 0x0B, 0x0C' menu I noticed that I had lost also 'Interior lighting (extended), Tyre pressure and Fingerprint. I checked them all and now everything is back. What I learned from all this: It is possible to upgrade ancient MMI (you need that if you retrofit AMI) with vers.5150 (part no. 8T0 906 961). DSP can go to Component Protection mode as mine did.

My phone is still alive. You can loose some options from CAR >Systems menu but these you can restore quite easy. So when you do upgrade, it's handy to have Audi dealer nearby to remove that CP.

Anyway everything is working for now. Next what I'll do is TV-Tuner and Navi - when I get them. (Audi dealer warned that CP may attack also with these ) Good Luck! Funny thing is that my MMI is talking German after all this - I have to figure out how to change it back to English as my German is very bad as my French.
